Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 7, 2026

Typeciao helps you learn a language by chatting with someone you actually want to talk to. To do that we handle some of your information — this page explains exactly what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain.

This policy applies to the Typeciao mobile app and the typeciao.com website (together, the “Service”), operated by Typeciao (“we”, “us”). If you have any questions, email support@typeciao.com.

1. Information we collect

We only collect what we need to run a 1:1 messaging and language-learning service.

Information you provide

DataWhy we have it
Account — your email address, or the identity from Sign in with Google / Apple when you use those. To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
Profile — display name, optional avatar photo, your native language and the language you’re learning. So your chat partner sees who they’re talking to, and so we can translate and hint in the right direction.
Messages — the content of messages you send, including the original text, its detected language, generated translations, and any corrections or hints. To deliver your conversations and provide the translation and language-learning features that are the core of the app.

Information collected automatically

We do not collect contacts, precise location, advertising identifiers, or browsing history, and Typeciao contains no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

2. How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your messages to serve advertising.

3. How your information is shared

With your chat partner

Typeciao is a 1:1 messaging app. The messages you send — and your profile (name, avatar, and languages) — are shared with the person you’re chatting with. That’s the whole point of the conversation.

With service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, only to deliver the Service:

ProviderWhat they do
Supabase Hosts our database, authentication, and avatar image storage — i.e. your account, profile, and messages.
Google (Gemini API) The text of messages is sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate translations, corrections, and hints. Per Google’s terms for the paid API, this content is not used to train their models.
Expo Delivers push notifications to your device via the Expo push service.
Google & Apple Provide Sign in with Google / Apple when you choose those sign-in methods.

For legal reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or Typeciao.

4. Data retention

We keep your account, profile, and messages for as long as your account is active, so your conversation history stays available to you and your chat partner. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet a legal obligation or resolve disputes. Message text sent to the Gemini API is processed transiently to produce a translation and is not retained by us for training.

5. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. We honor these rights for all users — just contact us and we’ll help. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.

6. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). On your device, authentication tokens are stored in the system keychain rather than general app storage. Access to our backend is gated by authentication and row-level security so a user can only read the chats they’re a member of. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

7. Children’s privacy

Typeciao is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age of digital consent applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International data transfers

Typeciao operates globally and our service providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
